Different Tales of Creation There are many different cultures and religions in this day and age and they have produced a variety of unique explanations as to how the world began. Some of these stories are very similar and some have no resemblance to others. For instance, Seneca Indians believe a creation myth unlike any others, while many other stories are comparable to the one in the Bible. Although both stories describe the creation of the universe, the Indian’s myth differs from the Bible’s in its description of the making of the earth, its animals and the heavens. In the Bible’s Priestly creation story, God creates the heavens, the earth and everything on it. He accomplishes all this with just his decree and the Bible offers no explanation as to why or how He does this. The Seneca Indians’ creation myth offers a more precise explanation of the beginning of the world. Their story begins when the great chief pushes his pregnant wife through a hole in the upper world into the unknown world below. Creature-beings already inhabit this place she falls into. These beings help her land safely on the back of a turtle from the underworld.
