The Role of U. S. Media In Politics
“Politicians have long feared media power. ... Television media particularly is a topic that candidates running for election must handle wisely. Media coverage can make a considerable difference in the way the American population votes at election time. There have been several instances in which United States politics has been influenced by the media; specifically regarding elections. The underlying theme in the movie Wag the Dog is, simply stated, that media has the power to convince the American population of anything. ... Still, a large amount of Americans rely solely on television coverage of the candidates running for office to form their own “personal” assessments, when really they are simply regurgitating the partiality of the media.
Wag the Dog is an over-exaggerated display of media influence. ... The media covers the fake war instead of proceeding to further investigate the sex scandal, and thus the president is re-elected for his heroism in the Albanian war. ...
How else is society supposed to get information to form their opinions about those running for election other than from the media?
