Objective: The objective of this paper is to identify statistical references in a scientific or business journal. For my analysis, I selected a technical paper from the Journal of Environmental Quality (Vol. 32 No. 4) entitled “Atmospheric Pollutants and Trace Gases: Atmospheric Ammonia, Volatile Fatty Acids, and Other Odorants near Beef Feedlots.” The purpose of the research conducted by McGinn, Janzen, and Coates was to identify the concentration profile (plume) of dust and 14 odor-causing gases downwind of 4 beef feedlots in Canada. The feedlots had already been identified as the origin of these pollutants. Identify Type of Data: The data discussed in the technical paper is quantitative. Examples of quantitative measurements made during the researchers’ experiment include: pollutant concentrations, feedlot capacity, and distance from each monitoring station to the feedlot.
