The word ‘nigger’ has been used as a word of hatred and for friendship. As Lee pointed out in the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, in the 1930’s the word ‘nigger’ was not a very harsh word, it was just a word that was used to describe black people. In today’s society, that word could be used as a meaning of hate toward someone or mean that someone is a friend.
