Rap Music, a descendant of reggae, is characterised by rapidly chanted, rhyming vocal lines and a hypnotic, repetitive beat. Rap music has become extremely popular over the past few years and its popularity is increasing rapidly. Rap originated among black teenagers in Harlem and The Bronx in the early 1980’s. ... Rap acquired the usual trapping of any pop music genre, with its own dress code, with fans normally stereotyped listening to the music on large, portable “ghettoblasters” and writing their adopted names in spray paint on walls, bus shelters and other buildings. Rap music mainly appeals to teenagers because of the ‘colourful’ and interesting lives of the artists and its “Bad Boy” lyrics. Also, rap appeals to teenagers because the teenagers could feel the same as the rapper(s). A rapper may rap about them and their partner splitting up and the listener may have split up also. They use rap to help themselves cool down and express how they feel about everyday issues and things that have happened during their lives
Why is rap controversial?
