We Should Ban Cell Phone Use
While Driving
By: Anh Tuan Ninh
For: Composition 1711
The 20th Century brought us many amazing high technological discoveries. One of these is the cell phone. The cell phone has been rapidly growing in popularity for a short time and has become affordable for almost everyone. Nowadays, cell phones are indispensable for most people, especially for businessmen. The more cell phones grow in usage, the more people abuse them due to the lack of understanding of the severe consequences. They use cell phones anywhere and anytime they want: in vehicles while driving, in airplanes, in school classes, in hospitals, and in any other places they go. The most dangerous time to use a cell phone is while driving because it distracts the drivers’ attention from the road. Many states are doing research on the consequences of talking on the phone while driving and debating the value of a cell phone ban for drivers. Even though some argue that it is premature to ban drivers use of cell phones and that its dangers have been overstated, a cell phone ban for drivers will definitely help make our roads safer and thereby save many lives.
Many opponents say a ban is premature because of what they call a lack of data on the degree of distraction. ... The Harvard study in 2002 estimated that the use of cell phones by drivers results in about 2,600 deaths and more than 500,000 injuries each year in the U.
