Essay: To what degree are the issues of the play “A Taste of Honey“ relevant to contemporary society?
In the fifties, when the play “A Taste of Honey” has been published first, it was shocking because it dealt with topics like homosexuality and teenage pregnancy. But concerning the values, society has changed and therefore I am going to examine if the issues really have lost all their relevance to today’s society.
For examining the matter, it is necessary to enumerate the main issues, the play deals with. ... Other issues are, as I have already mentioned in the introduction, homosexuality and teenage pregnancy but also an affair between a white girl (Jo) and a black man (the sailor) is part of this play. ... It is out of question that love is a relevant topic to society today, for everybody falls in love one time or another and there is a lot of talk about it.
