History around us:
Castles and fortified houses
From a study of the site and your research explain why many aspects of Conisbrough castle were ahead of their time in terms of castle building.
Conisbrough is located on the A630 between Doncaster and Rotherham. ... The castle itself is circular and has 6 buttresses, all of which are solid, apart from one which as a chapel.
To find out whether Conisbrough is really ahead of its time I compared it with a similar castle from the same period of time, which is Orford. Henry 11, the half brother of Hamelin Plantagenent, who owns Conisbrough, built Orford. It was built 20 years prior to Conisbrough and was the 1st circular keep which puts it ahead of its time. Conisbrough was 2nd, which meant it was also ahead of its time.
