CHAPTER 1
Statement of Purpose
The purpose of the research project was to show the need for more income housing situation in Oklahoma, specifically Logan County. ...
Statement of the Problem
In Logan County the low income housing situation is at a substantial low. According to 2001 Census reports Logan County has a population of 4,370 low income citizens and of those 5% are living and paying the same amount in rent as middle class Oklahomans. There are several areas in Logan County with low income housing, however these units are full and have up to a three year waiting list, or the occupants credit requirements would need to be in the upper percentile. These families who have to live out in the community, have to live on minimum income while having to afford rent, utilities, food and not to mention keeping a car in good standing and running condition. ...
History and Background of the Problem
According to the Guthrie Housing Authority the lack of insufficient housing stems back to the 80’s. ...
Many of the lower income citizens who reside in Logan County grew up there either they feel that they should not have to give up their homesteads or they, think their educational background prohibits them from obtaining the proper employment they need to move into that middle class category. ...
This project attacked the problems lying behind the housing situation and how a logical and efficient solution was found, while giving Oklahomans a safer and healthier environment to live.
