Should Seatbelts Be Mandatory in the US? ... Seatbelts also keep you from injuring others in the car. They are designed to keep us from ramming into the front of the car or flying through the windshield. A mandatory seatbelt law would also be better for the economy and the average consumer when it comes to taxes, insurance and overall health care. Many other countries have initiated a mandatory seatbelt law and have reduced the number of fatal accidents over the years. By logic these basic facts prove that seatbelts should be mandatory to wear in the US. ... Death and serious injury can be prevented if people just buckle their seatbelts. Seatbelts were invented and designed to keep the passengers of a car safe, “they help prevent internal injuries by spreading the force of a collision across two of the human body’s strongest areas-the pelvis and the upper chest“ (Tegner Miller).
