I think that the concept of game according to this movie is that in order to achieve victory, the players (Lola, Manni) should know how to play the game. ...
After Lola was briefed about the impossible mission that she was to accomplish in order to rescue her boyfriend, she clearly did not know what to do first. ... However, this does not stop Lola from at least doing something to save her boyfriend. Throughout the whole movie, we see that the main force behind Lola’s desperate search for a solution is her determination and strong love for Manni. With these, Lola answers to this impossible mission by just keeping on running even if she does not clearly know where she is heading.
Unfortunately, even if Lola has the determination and strong love for Manni, these are not enough for Lola to succeed as evidenced by the failures of her first and second tries at this game. ... In the first two tries, as Lola goes out of her apartment, she lets herself be frightened by the dog and be tricked by the kid holding the dog. ... Here, Lola gets on to an excellent start. ... Fearlessness is clearly what Lola greatly needed in order to achieve her victory. ... In the first two tries, Lola unintentionally bumps into an old woman with a baby cart, causing the old woman cursing Lola angrily behind her back. Lola also gets in the way of a group of nuns and sarcastically snubs the man riding the bicycle, even retorting that his bicycle is stolen.
However, in Lola’s third chance, Lola did not bump into the old woman, avoided the group of nuns and although she accidentally bumps into the man riding the bicycle, she apologizes to him, in contrast to her snide remarks to him in the past. ... Unfortunately, Manni lacked faith in Lola as exemplified by his decision to rob the store as soon as the clock struck twelve during the first try. At the very least, he should have waited for at least a few seconds more if he had complete and strong faith that Lola would come to him. ... At the beginning of the film, it is clear that compared to Lola, Manni is weaker and prone to lose control.
