Discussion Question
“The successful design of a chair was as much a challenge as that of a building,” as stated by Mies van der Rohe, quickly becomes an underlying theme in this reading. The author adamantly believes that the “perfect chair”- a harmonious integration of style and physical comfort- has not yet been attained. ... Surely, the wooden, four-legged chair of rigid right angles is the perfect design. ... Through misconception and alternative motive, the architect of the chair, past and present, has failed to address the language of true comfort.
