Talking heads
Alan Bennet
In “A lady of letters” Miss Ruddock talks about “lonliness and a sense of being isolated in the
community” How are all the characters in “Talking heads” confronted with this problem?
Lonliness and a sense of being isolated in the community seems to be a problem for most of the characters in “Talking heads,” but they are confronted with it in different ways.
Miss Ruddocks in a “Lady of letters”, shows us her lonliness in a number of ways, she goes to the funeral of a woman she doesnt really know so that she can feel involved, she does not just stop there she goes onto write to the funeral director to complain and then to the family of the dead woman, she said, “I also dropped a line to the relatives, but they didnt write back”(pg 45), by writing to the family she had some hope that maybe if they wrote back to her they may want her to become part of their family.
