PLATO Plato was born at the beginning of Peloponnesian War 427 B.C belonged to the Athenian aristocracy,received a good education and inspired by Socrates and became his student and follower.Plato was one of the outstanding philosophers of Ancient Age.He stressed the intellectual basis of virtue with wisdom.He regarded ethics as the highest branch of knowledge like Socrates. Plato also explored the fundamental problems of natural science,poitical theory,metaphysics,theology and the theory of knowledge;he developed nations that became permanent elements in Western thought. DIALECTIC and THE THEORY OF IDEAS Dialectic is art of discovering and testing truths by discussion and logical arguement,criticism that deals with metaphysical contradictions and how to solve them. And for Plato dialectic is primarily the art of conducting a discussion,then developing scientific knowledge by question and answer and finally the art of grasping conceptually.Thus ,in Plato,dialectic becomes a theory of science,a means of knowing the true reality of things.
