Major League Baseball is one of the most popular sports in America. Everyone has heard of Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio, our MLB heroes but have you ever heard of the Negro Leagues? ... The Negro Leagues was a league of only blacks. This league shaped baseball into what it is today. There were many changes in the 1920’s with black migration including the start of the Negro Baseball League.
During the establishment of the Negro leagues baseball went through many hardships. Andrew “Rube” Foster came up with the idea of the National Colored Baseball League in 1887 (Mills 1). Two weeks later, the league failed from the lack of attendance (Mills 1). At a second attempt, The National Colored Baseball League began in the 1920 season on May 2nd (Mills 1). ... In 1924 the first Negro World Series was between the Kansas City Monarchs and the Hilldale Club. Kansas won 5 games to 4 and became the first champions of the Negro Leagues (Mills 2). Many attempts were made to make the league a success.
