Nobelium was discovered in 1957 by Alfred Nobel at the Nobel Institute for Physics. It was soon confirmed in April 1958 by a group of scientists including: A. Chiorso, T. Sikkeland, John R. Walton, and G.T. Seaborg; working at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory in Berkeley, California. John R. Walton is given the for founding the element Nobelium. Nobelium is a very rare earth metal, it is so radioactive that only a few atoms of it have ever been made. Because it is so radioactive no one has ever been able to touch it to find out if has any texture. Nobelium not only has no texture but also no smell. Nobelium is a solid but when it is at room temperature it converts into a gas.
