... The International
Skating Union, the ISU, has tried to improve the judging the system. Their final decision
was to bring in a new system called the “Cumulative Point” judging system. This new
judging system will improve two things: the ethics of judges and the overall sport of
figure skating.
The new “Cumulative Point” judging system is immensely better than that of the
previous 6.0 system. This new system is a complete departure of the philosophy that each
judge is responsible for determining their preferred ranking. ... The idea of individual ranking is
completely lost and meaningless in the new system. The relative assessment of the old
system is replaced with the absolute assessment. ...
By adding this new judging system into the sport, it will increase the fan support.
This system gives room to bring in the statistical side of sport that everyone loves. ... Also by having the
point system, fans will get an idea of how much each element is worth and will be better
able to understand where the judges are judging from. ...
“The problem is not the scoring system at all, but rather the ethics and
accountability of judges and other officials,” based on popular opinion. The ISU decided
that to fix the ethics of the judges the scoring system needed to be changed. ... This system has shown a
huge improvement in consistency. ... (Text) The new system prevents this from happening
again because there is no way for a solo with two mistakes to beat a solo with none.
