Specification Function: The main purpose of the products (bins and benches) would be to have somewhere where the visitors walking in the park can have a place to rest or sit and eat thier lunch. Then they would need somewhere for the rubbish from their lunch to go and this is why a bin in the park is a good idea. The bin will also be needed to clean up after dogs in the park. There are many reasons why the Industrial Heritage site would benefit from keeping benches and bins in the park but these are the main purposes. The benches would solve alot of problems such as people walking on and ruining the grass. If people want a rest and there are no sitting places they won’t sit on the path, they will sit on the grass. This will cause grass erosion and so with benches the grass will become less worn. Bins will obviously solve the problem of litter being left around the park and dog-walkers will beable to clean up after their dogs. I think that benches have limited comfort so i would like to work on the attraction side. Most people in parks only sit on benches for a few minutes to watch people walk by, have a rest, or maybe eat and drink. They don’t sit down, usually, for large periods of time therefore i don’t need to concentrate on the comfort factor. My benches and bins will be colour co-ordinated and noticable to young children as well as suitable for the elderly. My bin will have a removable tin layer inside the bin so if the inner layer is ruined by gum, rubbish or other objects the tin layer will be replaced. The bin would not be ruined- the tin liner would. The bins opening will be a small hole in the top so rubbish and smells cannot escape and wasps will not be attracted to the smell.
