Images of Minorities in Movies
All black women are loyal domestic helpers or single mothers. ... These perceptions of minorities have been perpetuated in American cinema. With very few exceptions, minorities are stereotyped with shocking regularity in movies, television, and advertising. This paper will explore the role of minorities in movies, highlight the portrayal of minorities in some positive and negative movies, and discuss how stereotyping in cinema has impacted society.
Negative Portrayals of Minorities
Throughout the violent scenes of the movie “Kids” (1995), black (rap) music is playing in the background. ...
