Lord of the Flies: Why We Need Laws Every since the beginning of time, we have needed laws to function as a society. They are a necessary component for a functioning society for a number of reasons. The corruption and destruction of a law-free society is depicted in the movie “Lord of the Flies.” It is a prime example of how with a lack of laws there is chaos, as they are the glue that keeps everything together, and they are needed for the development of a society as a whole. As it is observed in the movie, lack of leadership and laws cause chaos. This is because people have no idea what to do without a leader, and they begin to doubt themselves and everyone around them, or they make their own rules. Chaos is also caused by a leader that is not fit to be in charge, or laws that are corrupt.
