The Worm

The wAll About Plants Plants have helped us throughout time, but there is more behind the curtain. Plants need many essentials in order to survive. Plants need many necessities in order to grow. For example, many plants need food. The food allows the plants to grow and helps the plant survive. There are many different types of things that help plants grow. The different parts of a plant help the plant receive food. The roots absorb the minerals and water from the ground and anchor the plants into the ground. The stems hold the leaves up to the sun and transport water and nutrients from the roots to the leaves. As for the leaves, they gather the suns energy and turn it into food for the plant. Water is one type of food that is required. “Water is the first step to a seeds waking up” (www.ebfarm.com/kids_grow.html). When the water is first added, the outer coat of the seed cracks. This allows the embryo in the seed to receive oxygen from the soil. The water allows the nutrients to flow from the soil to the embryo (www.ebfarm.com/kids_grow.html). The seeds also need soil with room to grow. The roots are the first things to come out the seed. “As the roots grow, they allow a plant to absorb water and nutrients” (www.ebfarm.com/kids_grow.html). Plants need healthy, well aerated, soil in order to obtain the nutrients they need. Sunlight and air is also essential to plant. When the first real leave begins to sprout through the soil, the plant starts making its own food.
