‘Stolen’, by Jane Harrison, is about five children with aboriginal background that suffered from child abuse. These abuses could be emotionally, physically and sexually. These disturbances can lead to breakdown, depression and suicide. When the policy of removing half-caste aboriginal children was advanced, a group of people known as the welfare went around taking aboriginal children from their family. There was no choice by the aboriginals. The plan was to make the half-caste children live in a non-aboriginal society and help them learn white culture. That wasn’t always the result. Living in a white society, some of the aboriginal kids suffered from abused that lead to despair. When Ruby was adopted from the children’s home by a white Australian couple, they treated her with a slave.
