In the last decade, there have been several cases where a doctor who performs abortions has been murdered. The sheer hypocrisy of these acts leads one to wonder why the murderer deemed it acceptable to commit the crime. The answer, in my opinion, is blind faith. The murderer justified killing another person because they had terminated hundreds of pregnancies. And, as we all know, killing is wrong. In the murderer’s eyes, the means justifies the end. They blindly followed the church’s teaching, believing that they would be absolved of their sins because they had prevented the doctor from terminating any other pregnancies. Blind faith has no place in today’s society. We are expected to be inquisitive people, exploring the reasons we act or think a certain way. Faith in God is in most cases a positive thing, but swallowing everything the church says (especially in light of the recent events concerning the molestation cover-ups) often has negative effects.
