Writing About Music. Assignment One. Debussy Analysis. For this essay I am going to analyze Claude Debussy’s prelude ‘Canope’. I will start by looking at the composer’s life and music in order to understand the piece in relation to his other works and to the man himself. Largely considered to be one of the most original and influential composers of the 20th century, Claude Debussy was feted as being the first composer of the impressionist movement, ironic as Debussy himself would never have categorized himself thus. However he certainly had his own way of doing things Claude Debussy was born in a small town near Paris in 1862. Aged eleven the young Debussy attended the Paris conservatoire to study the piano. But towards the end of his studies he decided to concentrate his efforts on composition rather than the piano.
