Ecstasy also known as E, XTC, Clarity, Essence, Adam, Euphoria, X, Love Doves, or the Hug Drug is a synthetic drug similar to methamphetamine and the hallucinogen mescaline. The essential ingredient in E is MDMA, methylenedioxymethamphetamine. It is a chemical produced in drugs labs, although anyone with a couple of years in college chemistry can easily make it in a basement lab with recipes that can be found on the internet. It was originally used by psychologists and therapists as a therapeutic tool, an acute anti-depressant. Now MDMA is classified by federal regulators as a drug with no accepted medical use. Many users are fooled when they are told that what they are buying is pure MDMA. Dealers often mix E with LSD (Acid), GHB (the date rape drug-) prescription medication (codeine) and even caffeine pills that can speed up the heart rate to dangerously high levels. The reason for this is, E is one of the more expensive drugs, ranging anywhere from $20-$30 depending on the dose and the purity.
