War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. -John Stuart Mill The points and significances the photographer draws in the photograph run parallel to the ideas of humanity and ones morals. He suggests ideas of belief, contrast, friendship, morality and selflessness. He makes sure not to draw specifics and while keeping the images simplicity as showing its means of degrading what we go to war for. Nothing elaborate was included as well as anything beautifully which provides a lasting impression of the war and the tolls it brings. The Photographer uses devices, themes and symbols in the picture to convey the message that going to war is to devolve our race, culture and to cause pain and suffering without rationalizing it is much worse.
