Hamlet and the theme treachery and deceit
Tragedy leads to deception in the play Hamlet, William Shakespeare uses the theme of deception, and how its use by one or more characters leads to their downfall. Each major character in Hamlet, in their own way, provides us with a clear example of this theme of treachery and deception. By using deceit the characters in Hamlet used methods to their own advantage, an action that ultimately resulted in tragedy.
In the play Hamlet, the most evident use of this deception is seen in Hamlet and his actions through out the play. ... Here we can see that Hamlet swore to use this antic disposition to uncover his father’s murderer. ...
Hamlet’s plan of playing an antic disposition was going too far. ... By coming clean with those he trust most, Hamlet served to alienate them from himself, and from his cause of wanting to avenge his father’s death. Hamlet started to alienate everyone around him, he should have told those he trusted the reason for his madness. ... In these lines Hamlet is speaking to Ophelia. It is evident that Hamlet deceitfully attacked her for hiding her opinions, while he himself was concealing his own opinions with the antic disposition. ... Here Rozencratz is speaking to Hamlet. We can see that Hamlet was not being honest with his friends. Hamlet’s use of an antic disposition is what leads to his death. It is evident that Hamlet had overdone his acting mad.
The madness Hamlet had created was beginning to control him He had overdone his acting mad. While Hamlet was speaking to his mother he thought that he had caught Claudius spying on them and so Hamlet wanting to finally kill Claudius attack a figure behind the curtains. The figure ended up being Polonius and Hamlet felt little remorse for what he had done.
