“The Flea”, written by John Donne, is about the poet trying to seduce his mistress by overcoming her shyness through an argument. ... Donne is a metaphysical poet, he writes unusual, uses unusual devises, such as the idea of “The Flea”, and uses this to put forward a valid argument.
From the beginning of “The Flea”, you can see that the title is not very welcoming and is likely to put u off. A Flea is a small, cunning and secretive creature. A flea is the last thing that you would like to read about or discuss; it’s more prolific in everyday life than at the time that this poem is portraying. You could say to a certain extent he uses the flea as a metaphor. The general topic of the poem is about him (John Donne) trying to seduce his mistress so he can have sex with her.
