New Cultural Renaissance May be in the Making Part I By R. Glen Keyes In the current culture we see religion attacked in terms of the “Wall of Separation”. Of course, there is no wall of separation and it is not really an attack on religion. It is more an attack on Christianity. We see incompetent graduates from our school system. English is poor and history is non-existent. We see a weakened family structure with divorce, unwed mothers and same sex unions. Then there is the coarsened social discourse. Deceit practiced on the part of some in politics, the media and business; and with pornography seemingly everywhere plus the general confusing of pleasure with happiness. Quite an indictment of current American culture, yet this writer is optimistic about improvement in each of these areas. As Thomas Paine said, “these are the times that try men’s souls”. Yet the more difficult the conflict, the more glorious will be the triumph. So let’s see what’s happening with some of the pathologies we see in the current culture. Dropping of the word Christmas from school celebrations has brought law suits and a reversal. The so called Wall of Separation didn’t exist until the counter culture decided it did. Picture the outcry if George W. Bush made the statement on Christmas 2003; “it is not easy to say ‘Merry Christmas’ to you, my fellow Americans, in the time of destructive war.
