Canadians are the second largest consumers of water in the world. Installing
water meters into residential homes throughout the lower mainland would reduce the use
and consumption of this vital resource. Should the Greater Vancouver Regional
District, GVRD, make metering manditory?
Since 1998, the GVRD has made it manditory to meter any new residential
housing in the Lower Mainland and continues to meter and monitor commerial and
business water use. Metering has been proven effective in controlling water use,
by approximately 15-70%, and minimizing high costs of over-use in a few major
Canadian cities like Langley, Edmonton and Ottawa.
