Capital punishment has come a long way since the past, even though people are still fighting to stop it or change it drastically. Capital punishment hasn’t been always performed by lethal injection like it is today. In the early 1930’s the electric chair had been introduced, and before that a hanging would take place. Even though the way capital punishment is performed today people still want it to end or be changed. Most these people belong to Catholic extremist groups. They feel that it is still wrong to execute a person in this manner, because they still consider it murder. If the death penalty was done away with the U.S. prison system would be over flowed with inmates. There are some states that do not use the death penalty these include Alaska, Iowa, Michigan, and Maine, along with eight others ( www.sun.soci.niu.edu ).
