Ideology of Fargo

Some people may tell you that this film is a true story of a determined car salesman, two ignorant kidnappers, and one dedicated police officer. In truth, this is not a true story, but a symbolic performance where embodied righteousness, wickedness, and other ideas are characters. In this piece, the margin between the good characters and the bad characters is powerfully illustrated. In this paper I will enlighten you to the fact that this “true story” is more than just a portrayal of good triumphing over evil, but a thorough explanation through symbolism, metaphors, and spiritual similes, of how spiritual values overpower the values that lack of. We will contrast the ideals of insight and principle, to the ideals of violence, thoughtlessness, unfaithfulness, and ravenousness, and examine why in this particular tale, good did triumph over evil. It’s not that difficult to see the intrinsic worth in which the characters in this film represent. Marge Gunderson, the expecting female police chief, stands for everything good; she represents the power of life’s laws and compassion in the presence of love, a spiritual-figure. Marge represents Divine-figure that teaches the spectator the importance of 7 positive ideals to live by; faith, hope, charity, fortitude, justice, temperance, and prudence. The other main characters on the other hand, Jerry Lundegaard, the car salesman, and the two kidnappers, Gaear Grimsrud and Carl Showalter, represent Diabolic-figures and show us the destructive force of lawlessness and chaos in the absence of love with portraying 7 very negative ideals; pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed, and sloth. The purpose of insight is to find the native things that deepen human life and to illustrate truthful parallels that allow people to live whole and healthy. This journey takes for granted a universe that offers teachings with foreseeable results. Also, being insightful is to also be aware that there is wrongness in human life that is beyond our understanding.
