In past times it would have been a rarity to find Martial Arts clubs or organisations in any town or suburb of Australia. But in recent years the rapid growth in popularity of the various forms of Martial Arts has seen a great resurgence and ‘rebirth’ in the practicing of these ‘disciplines’. Martial Arts have their roots firmly entrenched in eastern culture and religion, it is these eastern religions which form the basis for all of Martial Arts theology, this is one major reason why being part of a Martial Arts group can be so dangerous. Many people view involvement in Martial Arts as a ‘harmless’ and ‘healthy’ pursuit, which is merely a way of improving fitness levels and developing some ‘everyday’ self defence techniques. However, just as the popularity of these ‘styles’ of Martial Arts have increased in prevalence and acceptance, so has the alarm among many Christians. Many Bible-believing Christians have expressed their deep concern, in relation to whether or not the core beliefs and customs of these Martial Arts disciplines, are in fact in direct opposition to those expressed and outlined in what Christians call the ‘word of God’, the Bible. This brings us to pose the question, Should Christians be involved in Martial Arts?
Martial Arts comes under two main classifications, or as they are better known, ‘styles’. ... All these styles, comprise many different techniques and approaches to Martial Arts, nevertheless they are all based on the same principles.
