Second movement from Sonata in A for Piano K.331 Mozart (1756-1791) Mozart wrote many Piano Sonatas primarily for his students to play. The exact date that this Sonata was written isn’t known but it is thought that it was between 1781-83, in either Munich or Vienna. Tonight you will hear performed the second movement of this Sonata: Minuet and Trio. A Minuet and Trio is a dance, which was popular in the 18th Century with the rich Aristocratic society. The Minuet begins with both hands playing a declamatory opening motif based upon the notes of an A major Triad.
