No I have not lived for a "number of years" abroad, but what does this have to do with the concept of freedom of speech? ... And the major goal behind restricting Freedom of Speech is to restrict thought. ... But freedom of speech is a must for every human, because sometimes certain societies present the wrong as a right, and only with hearing the right you can realize the wrong. ... "Freedom of speech" is what you practice here, on this site, everyday, whenever you turn on your computer. ...
Freedom is relative, so a definition is required.
Freedom: "for people to have complete freedom there must be no restrictions on how they think, speak or act. ... A free society tries to distribute the conditions of freedom equally among all people."
There are different kinds of freedoms, political freedom, social freedom, and economic freedom. ... But the subject at hand is "Freedom of Speech"; therefore another definition would be of use.
