Game Software Importation
With the growing popularity of personal computers and video game players such as PS2 and Xbox , the video game industry has been in a significant boom over the recent years. In fact, the video game has been the second most profitable just below the movie in the entertainment industry and will most probably become the top profitable sector in the near future.
China, like the rest of the world, has a surprising number of loyal game fans, especially among the new generation of youth. Game industry will be likely to be a prominent aspect of China¡¯s economy. According to a statistical research report, the potential revenue in the whole China¡¯s game market will be more than RMB100 billions. Thus this industry is extremely attractive and catches the eyeballs of game-related companies from all over the world.
Although China has such a huge market for video games, it does not have many domestic professional game developers. In fact, there is only one relatively high level game developer named Kingsoft in China. Most of the game software that we play is from the United States, Japan, and South Korea.
By taking a closer look, we could notice an interesting phenomenon that game software sold in mainland China is much cheaper than in developed countries: The prices are ranging from RMB10 to RMB70, whereas in USA are from US$10 to US$70, about eight times more expensive.
