The Bishop Strachan School in Toronto is Canada’s oldest day and boarding school for girls, with a distinguished history that dates back to 1867. The school is still making history in 2003, with an innovative program that links mobile technology with curriculum delivery. The result is a student population that is talking full advantage of the learning potential of the laptop. “We rewrote our curriculum with technology in mind,” says Mary Anne Ballantyne, the school’s Director of Information Technology. “We didn’t layer the technology on top of the old curriculum. To take full advantage of the technology, our students do a lot of interactive learning, and a lot of inquiry-based learning.” Ms. Ballantyne and Vice Principal of Curriculum Kim Gordon are the driving forces behind the school’s mobile technology program, which runs entirely on HP hardware supplied and maintained by HP’s channel partner MIAD Systems Ltd.
