We learn from ‘The Matrix’ that the Oracle prophesied the return of the One. When the Matrix was first created, there was a man inside who could change the Matrix as he saw fit. While this idea seemed very spiritual and supernatural in ‘The Matrix’, after seeing ‘The Matrix Reloaded’, we are meant to understand that the emergence of the One is merely a calculated probability of which the Matrix is aware of and prepared for. What was perceived to be a prophecy of the, was actually just another type of control. In ‘The Matrix Revolutions’, Neo will have to face this updated version of the same problem he thought he solved in ‘The Matrix’; that is, he is not in control of his life. He acknowledges Neo as the 6th (sixth) integral anomaly to appear in the Matrix. The Architect refers to him as an ‘eventuality of an anomaly’ He says that the anomaly is systemic, causing fluctuations in the simplest of equations, and Neo responds with, “Choice. The problem is choice.” The Architect goes on to describe the anomaly as ‘the imperfection inherent in every human being.’ He says an intuitive program, ‘initially created to investigate certain aspects of the human psyche,’ stumbled upon a solution where ‘nearly 99% of test subjects accepted the program as long as they were given a choice, even if they were only aware of the choice at a mere unconscious level.’ To paraphrase, the choice he must be referring to is a human’s choice of either accepting the Matrix program or not accepting the Matrix program.
