A Story of Moses and His God
     This is a story of how God used Moses to work out His plan for the Israelites. God told Moses about how His people were suffering in Egypt. The Israelites were crying out to God to relieve their pain, so God called on Moses to help deliver them from their oppressors. At first Moses was afraid because he lacked the courage to do this for God. He didn’t have the confidence to approach Pharaoh and ask for the freedom of his people. ... This is a story of faith and courage because sometimes it seemed to Moses like God wasn’t there. God was faithful and helped Moses carry out the task that was asked of him. ...
When Moses was grown, he was watching the Israelites work and he saw an Egyptian beating a worker. ... ” Moses became afraid and wondered if what he did had become known. When Pharaoh found out about this he tried to kill Moses. But Moses ran from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian. ... Some shepherds came along and tried to run them off, but Moses protected them and even watered their flocks for them. ... When Moses was invited, he decided to stay with them. Jethro gave his daughter, Zipporah, to Moses in marriage, and she eventually became pregnant. ...
     Moses was taking care of Jethro’s sheep. ... God went to Moses in a burning bush and called out to him. Moses answered, “Here I am. ... God told Moses that he was the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Moses was very afraid of this strange thing. God told him that his people, the Israelites were in Egypt, and they, were being oppressed by Pharaoh. He was concerned about their sufferings, and told Moses that he wanted him to go to Egypt and bring his people out of that land of slavery.
     Moses was doubtful that he would be able to convince Pharaoh that God had spoken to him. The Lord told Moses to throw his staff on the ground. After Moses did this, God turned the staff into a snake. Then the he told Moses to grab the tail of the snake. ... God told Moses to do this so that they would believe God had appeared. Then he told Moses to place his hand in his coat. ... And if they didn’t believe either of these miracles, Moses was to take water from the Nile and pour it on the ground. ... Moses told the Lord that he was unsure about speaking because he was slow of speech. Moses even told God to ask someone else to do it. This made God angry so he let Moses take his brother Aaron with him to talk for him, but Moses was suppose to do the miracles. After this Moses took his wife and two sons with him and went to Egypt.
     Moses went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the Lord the God of Israel says: ‘Let my people go so that they may hold a festival to me in the desert. ... He didn’t care though because even when he learned about this God he still let the people go. ... Pharaoh only told Moses and Aaron that they were being a hindrance to the workers. ... So the foremen left Pharaoh and went to Moses and Aaron telling them that they had made them a problem to Pharaoh.
Moses spoke to God and asked him why he had only caused more suffering for the Israelites. And why God had not rescued his people at all. God reassured Moses that he would punish Pharaoh, and that he would eventually let God’s people go.
