I will attempt to discuss my learning for the second half of the course by using the 5-gap analysis. I will take each one of the five gaps and discuss them individually with a conclusion coming at the end of the paper. The second half of the class has offered what I believe to be some of the best readings and discussions of the semester. The term boundary leader is a new term that I have become introduced to and one which I find to be very important. The term boundary zone is one that comes along with boundary leader. These places that are between the control zones which was so vividly described by Gary Gunderson in his Boundary Leaders manuscript was a term that resonated with me. I was one who felt that one of the many institutions that we have set up in society, be it governmental/non-governmental or profit/non-profit, have some dealings with every area of need that society has. After reading the Boundary Leader manuscript I have come to the conclusion that there are needs that exist which has not been reached by those institutions that I have put all of my trust in. I was struck by how I found myself saying “that so true” to points within the manuscript that I had not thought about before. I believe that someone in the theological field, particularly those serving in parish ministry, have a special opportunity to see those that are on the periphery of society because they more than many other professionals come in to personal and intimate contact with such people. Thinking about this has indeed caused me to examine my own commitments. I agree that becoming a boundary leader is a choice and one has to be prepared for the consequences that such choice encompasses. I am one who can relate fully with Millicent, a subject of one of the vignette in the manuscript, when it comes to the hardships that one may face when choosing to be a boundary leader.
