In this essay I am going to discuss and evaluate the PE National Curriculum (2000) inclusion statement. To begin with when writing this essay I had to ask myself the question what is inclusion. The oxford dictionary definition of inclusion is “the action of including the fact or condition of being included an instance of this. This made me realise that inclusion is the over coming of barriers such as people with special educational needs but also forms of discrimination and lack of self-confidence. Inclusion is the adaptation of the class to allow each individual the chance to learn without exception. The inclusion statements first sentence “schools have the responsibility to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all pupils” is probably the best way to explain how inclusion relates to schools. The national curriculum was set up as a yardstick for the schools of the country to allow the students to enter the world after school through further education or the work place with similar skills in a wide range of areas. ...
The importance of the inclusion statement to teachers is the fact that they must make an active effort to have the whole class involved in the lesson. ... This responsibility is also backed up with not only the statement but also legislation such as SEN and disability rights bill (2001) and the revised code of practice (2002).
Inclusion benefits the pupils by allowing them not only to take part in physical activity but also through letting them develop in the non-sporting mind and more in the personality that they will have in the future. Inclusion teaches all about equality and respect for others which not only benefits the self confidence of the person who would have been otherwise excluded but also benefits the other pupils by giving them the awareness of others around them and hopefully a base to later life in the work place.
The inclusion statement has three main principles firstly setting suitable learning challenges. ... “ The national curriculum program of study set out what most pupils should be taught at each key stage. ... To me this indicates that although inclusion is set to include everyone in also means that if someone is not actually able to take part will not be taught the same level.
