Lies My Teacher Told Me is a profound book of historical knowledge that gives the reader a sense of truth to what we’ve learned about history since the beginning of our education. Loewen claims that we as students, have been mislead by our history textbooks, trusting that their facts are true. ... Loewen does not try to make his audience like history although he creates an emphasis to make an understanding of the true facts, and he proves his arguments with reliable sources. Chapters one through twelve of Lies My Teacher Told Me are extremely detailed with descriptive lectures of “what really happened. ... ” Loewen asks, “Who gets to be the hero and why? ... Loewen implies that certain textbooks exclude important facts about Helen Keller while the unimportant facts seem to be in bold. ... She wasn’t just the blind and deaf girl that was helped by her teacher Anne Sullivan. ... She even had a focus on helping the blind and as Loewen said, “She soon came to realize that deal solely with blindness was to treat symptom, not cause” (Pg 22).
