Henry's best friend Rinaldi 3. Rinaldi told Lt. Henry that he is in love with an English woman named Catherine Barkley 4. Lt. Henry tells priest that he never went to Abruzzi, but he wanted too. Chapter 4 1. Lt. Henry woke up to blowing shells 2. Lt. Henry visited posts in the mountains 3. The division Lt. Henry was in, were planning on attacking up the river 4. Rinaldi introduces Lt. Henry to Catherine Barkley 5. Miss. Barkley tells about her fiancé and how she had lost him to the war. 6. Rinaldi realizes that Miss. Barkley is not interested in him. So he talks to Helen Ferguson (Barkley's friend) Chapter 5 1. Lt. Henry visits Miss. Barkley the next afternoon 2. Lt. Henry explains why he is in the Italian Army and not the American 3. Drives to the sight were the offense will start, explains that new roads are being built. 4. Shells were shot around the sight 5. Meets with Miss. Barkley after dinner, Barkley explains her position at the hospital 6. Henry Attempts to kiss Miss Barkley, she slaps him then eventually kisses and cries after. 7. Rinaldi teases Henry about his relationship with Miss Barkley Chapter 6 1. After being away for two days he visited Miss. Barkley 2. Miss. Barkley mentions loving Lt. Henry 3. Miss. Barkley plays mind games with Lt. Henry Chapter 7 1. Lt. Henry drives to his post 2. Fighting started 3. Lt. Henry helps a wounded man 4. Lt. Henry wrote to America.
