1. What particular techniques have been most useful? Least useful? I use several different techniques. Group assignments seem to work very well. When working in a group, each student has to carry their weight. The group has several duties to cover. They then divide each task amongst themselves. If each person does not do his or her part, the assignment will not be complete. After each assignment, I have my students to do a reflection paper on the assignment. In the reflection they can express their thoughts about the project. If they feel that a particular person has not done his or her part, they let me know in the reflection. I teach five classes. Each class is different. A technique that works with one class may not work with another class. I try to use a traditional, row-by-row, seating chart. Seating students in clusters can work with some classes, although it is not effective with most of my classes. When students are seated in clusters they tend socialize and stray from their assignments. 2. How do you address the physical learning environment and why? I believe the physical environment is one the most important concepts in teaching although many may not agree. At the high school level I find that the classroom environment is not always placed as a priority.
