Cliques. Gangs. Groups. Factions. Posse. Crew. There are as many different terms for them as there are different types. Nevertheless, groups of people tend to come together and come up with labels for other people. These groupings are most pronounced in high school students. Some people are glad to admit they are part of a certain group, while others try not to admit that they group in with other people. According to some of the students here at Crystal City High School, there is the former, "I consider myself an Anti-social computer nerd." Those are the ones that you may describe as people that spend a lot of time on computers. They do things from programming to the Internet, to games. Also in high school there are certain people and their friends that are the "Artistic Under-culture". This sometimes misunderstood group has also been known by less affectionate names such as Gothic’s, freaks, punks, and outcasts. These individuals are often shunned by "normal" society, because of their distinct differences. Many may dress all in black and other "unusual" attire and the general music preference are that of Punk rock or Alternative. Most of these people, from my experience, are nice people once you get to know them. There are, of course, numerous other cliques, both minor and major. When recently discussing this issue with a former English teacher, she listed some of the major cliques that were brought up and named by her students.
