Segregation between races has lingered for years. There has always been a solution to expel the unequal treatment, but the solution has not eliminated the whole problem. One issue women face today is unequal treatment in the work force. "This kind of segregation has decreased, but still remains pronounced" (Gallaghar). Segregation has an important negative effect on how men view women and how women view themselves. This in turn negatively affects women's status, income, and consequently many social variables such as mortality and morbidity, poverty, and income inequality (Anker). Women should have the same job privileges and benefits as men. Jobs that are often few and competitive are hard to acquire and usually discriminate against women. Our society has always shown in media that women are to be dependent upon their spouse and they are not supposed to share the roles of men. As our country is rapidly changing lanes, opportunities for women are also shifting. In the past, the male was the head of the household and was the one who provided for the family.
