NAIL ENAMEL REMOVER This contains a solvent which dissolves the enamel so that it may be wiped off the nail plate. Acetone is the most frequently used solvent but it has a very drying effect which can cause the layers of the nail to separate. For this reason, a small amount of oil or glycerol is usual included in the formulation. Acetone-free removers, which are less harsh on the nails, have become popular. They contain solvents such as ethyl, amyl and butyl acetates and toluene. NAIL ENAMEL THINNERS Ethyl acetate is one example of a solvent used to thin down nail enamel which has thickened. A few drops of thinners is added to the enamel at least twenty minutes before the manicure to ensure that it dissolves evenly in time for application.
