... One of the many ways to enhance our outer appearance is through makeup. Makeup is not just about; mascara, blush, and lipstick – there is a deeper meaning to it all. Makeup reveals a persons feelings and how secure they are. Although makeup is used amongst adolescents, adults, and the elderly the same underlying reason still exists- self consciousness. ... Because adolescents go through so many changes, causing them to feel a sense of awkwardness and self consciousness makeup is used as a means to help them feel better about themselves and find out who they really are. ... Because middle age people value youth they still have pressures and want to look their best, which is why makeup is still used at this stage in life. ... I walked into an old age home one time and I was greeted by two different groups of women; those with makeup and those without. The women wearing makeup looked more like clowns. ... The group without makeup looked old and sad. The women with makeup seemed to be trying to hold onto youth, but because of degeneration their hand-eye coordination is weaker which explains the way the lipstick looked.
