... Descartes explains this separation between mental and physical in The Passions of the Soul. Cartesian Dualism separates the body from the mind as two different things which interact with each other in a manner that Descartes never does not elaborate on other than saying that, “[the soul] radiates through the rest of the body by means of the animal spirits, the nerves, and even the blood, which can take on the impressions of the spirits and carry them through the arteries to all the limbs” (355). ... Ryle’s objections to Descartes’ Passions of the Soul intended to correct what crucial mistakes that Ryle believed that Descartes made.
