John Donne and John Milton have some similarities in their sonnets and some differences. In reading the sonnets I found that their sonnets are written with similar tones, about different things, but yet are similar in talking about time. It is evident that Donne's tone is more depressing dealing with death and Milton complains of no promise for the future. John Donne’s tone presents a somewhat mellon-colley feeling to Holy Sonnet I. This becomes apparent in the first line of the sonnet, where Donne is addressing God. He is asking God why he is letting his own creation decay. “Thou hast made me, and shall thy work decay?”. Then Donne goes on to say, “Repair me now, for now mine end doth haste.” This shows that he is asking God to repair him because his end is near.
